This magnificent federal-style home stands on a working beef cattle farm adjacent to the Shenandoah National Park. It was built of native fieldstone in 1812 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The summer kitchen dependency is now the romantic honeymoon suite for two. The second suite has two private bedrooms and one bath. All rooms have air conditioning, working fireplaces, individual heat and view the Skyline Drive atop Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. A full candlelight breakfast of eggs benedict, smoked salmon, custom omelets etc. is served at an hour of choice. On farm amenities include a spa, bikes, lawn games, hay rides, bird-watching, VCR, piano, library, porches, and patios. Scenery, history, recreation, accommodations and hospitality all come together beautifully at Caledonia Farm - 1812. Splendor for all seasons!
Since 1936 the Shenandoah National Park has been famous for its 105 mile Skyline Drive, 700-miles of trails, 195,000 acres of mountains, wilderness, waterfalls, woods and wildlife. Nearby are antiques, caves, fishing, wineries, stables, battlegrounds, canoeing, climbing, golf, tennis, swimming, and superb evening dining is just down the road. It's why 37% of folks visit Virginia from another state.

Your host has visited over 330 bed & breakfasts in North America, many before opening his top-rated B & B in 1985. Owner Phil Irwin delights in sharing the unspoiled open space he discovered back in 1961 and still works to preserve for his future guests. A retired international broadcaster, he still enjoys telling folks where to go...nicely.....and provides custom maps to the main points of interest in the least developed Virginia county east of the Appalachian Mountains. In advance, Phil will arrange for balloon or aircraft flights, historians, limo service, fishing/battlefield guides, horse/carriage rides, theater tickets and other special interests. It's otherwise quiet here.

With the renowned Blue Ridge Mountains in the background, Caledonia Farm offers its guests a beautiful setting. Scenic pasturelands are surrounded by stone fences. The federal style home and companion summer kitchen were completed in 1812. The two-foot thick stone walls and thirty two -foot long beams have remained intact. Mantels, paneled windows and wide pine floors are all original. Restoration was completed in 1965. This Virginia historic landmark is preserved in perpetuity.
The winter kitchen's huge fireplace provides a delightful atmosphere during cool seasons. Three porches and a patio offer a variety of views in the warmer months. Guest rooms feature fine double beds, period furnishings and modern comforts. Photos are of honeymoon suite down and up.
It is called Caledonia, the mythological name for Scotland, to honor the original immigrants to this magnificent area. The open space character of the English/Irish countryside remains virtually unspoiled yet today in America's Rappahannock County, Virginia.
